2 K&N Filters in Banshee

K&N Filter Options for Your Banshee

Many Banshee owners use K&N air filters on their rides. Why? K&N Air Filters can increase horsepower up to 12%. They allow considerably more air flow than a stock air box set-up. Generally up to a 25% increase in jet sizes will be required because K&N's filters increase the air flow. The filters help your engine breathe better, which leads to better performance. The filters perform better than foam air filters and don't need to be replaced. The filters can be serviced and used for years.

Outerwears Pre-Filters worn over the outside of a K&N filter can provide another layer of protection. These deflect dirt and harmful debris that would otherwise clog or damage your air filter.

Here we describe most of the K&N air filters Banshee owners use for their various carburetor setups.

One Filter Setups

These setups require one filter for both carburetors. Some Banshee owners prefer a setup with one filter instead of 2 mainly because they only have 1 filter to clean and recharge. Depending on your engine and carburetor setup and your riding style, 1 filter may be plenty for your engine.

Stock Airbox

  • K&N's Air Filter YA-3502 fits inside the OEM airbox. The K&N air filter slides over the flange in the airbox. Using this filter will require either the OEM airbox flange to be modified, or it can be used with an aftermarket airbox adaptor plate.
  • In a stock setup, the stock foam filter slides over a plastic cage inside the airbox. To use a K&N air filter in the stock airbox, the plastic cage will need to be cut off leaving the flange intact so the K&N air filter can fit over the flange and be secured with a hose clamp.

Toomey 2:1 Rubber Manifold

  • Toomy Racing USA's original 2:1 High Flow Air Filter System comes with a 2 stage foam UNI-FILTER and 2:1 rubber manifold. The manifold clamps directly to the carburetors and is designed to be self supporting. Many Banshee owners prefer to replace the foam filter with a K&N air filter. We have found K&N's Air Filter E-1006 fits this purpose.
  • In sand, K&N’s pleated style filter seems to filter the air better than most foam style filters. Sand is sometimes able to slip through or past the more porous foam material.
  • When switching to a K&N Air Filter, the filter’s flange inserts inside Toomey’s 2:1 manifold. You will need to add a ring inside the opening of the air filter. The filter flange is rubber and will crush when the hose clamp is tightened around the manifold’s flange unless it is supported with a metal ring. When you buy this filter from Re-Do Banshee, we can provide the support ring.

Two Filter Setups

A 2 filter setup has a K&N filter that connects directly to the air horn on each of the 2 carburetors. This might also be called a 2 pod setup. If you have an engine displacement higher than the 350cc stock engine, you may need 2 filters so your carbs and engine can draw enough air for the fuel to air mixture.

Smaller carbs can almost always use straight filters. Larger carbs may need angled filters. How well these filters fit can be different depending on which exhaust is on the Banshee.

Filters come in various angles to help them fit: straight, 10 degree, and 30 degree angles.

Smaller Carbs

Smaller carbs can almost always use straight filters.
