Banshee Wiring Harness - Which plug shapes do I need?

One thing many riders like about Yamaha Banshees is that many of the parts are interchangeable between the different years Banshees were manufactured. However, the electrical components had a few changes.  😏

Here's a list of the differences to the wiring harness and the electrical parts that connect to it. 

Wiring Harness Plug Shapes by Year

Changes are shown in bold

1987 – 1994

  • Round semi clear plug connectors on handlebar switch, CDI, & stator.
  • 3 bullet wire connectors for each headlight.
  • Has a taillight.
  • No brake light.

1995 was a Changeover Year

  • Square gray plug connectors on handlebar switch, CDI, & stator.
  • 3 bullet wire – OR – flat rectangle semi clear plug connectors for each headlight.
  • Has a taillight.
  • No brake light.

1996 – 1997 

  • Square gray plug connectors on handlebar switch, CDI, & stator.
  • Flat rectangle semi clear plug connectors for each headlight.
  • Has a taillight.
  • No brake light.

1998 – 2001 

  • Square white plug connectors on handlebar switch, CDI, & stator.
  • Flat rectangle semi clear plug connector for each headlight.
  • Has a taillight.
  • No brake light.

2002 – 2006 

  • Square white plug connectors on handlebar switch, CDI, & stator.
  • White triangle 3 wire connector for each headlight.
  • Has a taillight. Light assembly changed to include a bulb now with 2 filaments. Light assembly is much larger than previous years. 
  • Brake light added to taillight & switch added. Front or rear brake turns the brake light on. Uses the same light assembly as the taillight.
