NGK 2-BR8ES-S Spark Plug Decoder - What does the Part No mean?

NGK 2-BR8ES-S Spark Plug Decoder - What does the Part No mean?

Re-Do Banshee recommends and installs NGK BR8ES-S spark plugs in Banshee engines we service, repair, or build.

The NGK 3961 (part number BR8ES-S) is a standard resistor-type spark plug. The "2-" prefix is often used in cataloging (e.g., 2-BR8ES-S). It is a distributor-specific indicator used to identify individual NGK units.

Key Specifications for NGK 3961

  • Hex Size: 13/16" (21mm).
  • Factory Gap: 0.031" to 0.032" (0.8mm).
  • Common Applications: Widely used in two-stroke engines.
  • Alternative Options: The 3961 is the Solid Terminal. The NGK 5422 is the same plug but features a removable nut terminal.

We do not recommend a removable nut terminal because it can come loose in the spark plug boot. This can kill the spark and it is very difficult to remove.

About the Authors:

This article was written by Janel with plenty of help from Virgil. Virgil is the Banshee mechanic, and I am the website mechanic. I do own and ride a Banshee, which helps.

I want to make sure the products I or we put on our website have correct descriptions and options. I want our technical info to be accurate and helpful. A while back, I started creating internal cheat sheets for my own or our shop's use. Then I thought they might be helpful to others. This is how our Banshee Parts Reference blog began.

Writing and editing these articles helps me make better sense of the parts, fitment, and what goes with what. Let me know if this one is helpful or if you think I need to correct something. You can send an email to info@redo-parts.com - and your comments will be passed along to me.

Thanks ~Janel 😉👌
